Panchakarma. A word that can be seen across most of the Ayurvedic centres in the city. It is said that Panchakarma helps treat obesity. But how does that happen? Is Panchakarma some magic fat-melting treatment that instantly solves problems for obese people. Obviously not. Also, Panchakarma isn’t something that helps you lose large kilos of weight. That won’t happen until you put in efforts to manage your diet and your lifestyle. Weight loss can be achieved, only with the right efforts and right methods, in the right direction, for the right reasons. It requires a lot of dedication and hard work.
Following are some tips that have been known to help an individual lose weight and are usually suggested in any Ayurvedic obesity treatment in India:-
- Consumption of green gram/horse gram
- Increasing consumption of wheat and reducing the consumption of rice
- Avoiding eating food that is high in sugar, which can basically be sweets, sugar-sweetened beverages, huge amounts of carbs, foods that are high in oil content. Sugary foods will aggravate the Kapha dosha in the body and eventually lead to obesity, diabetes and other complications.
- Avoiding excess sleep. Too much sleep can affect the rate of metabolism in our body.
- Regular physical activity like walking, yoga, jogging/running will help burn calories and maintain your weight
Unfortunately, Ayurveda is still known today as an alternative medicinal therapy. The primarily adopted system being allopathy. This is the reason why the rise of a number of people taking up Ayurveda is very slow. People do not have any idea about how Ayurveda works or on what principles it is based on. This is because, since the past two centuries, conventional medicines and western medical science has permeated into countries and established itself as the primary health care system.
Ayurvedic obesity treatment in India is essential, especially for people who are obese. The problem is that obese people, over a period of time, get addicted to eating. They get addicted to foods that are oily, crunchy and addictive, not to mention fattening. They become addicted to the habit of eating. On top of this, being fat creates a sense of frustration in the person, and the obese person, most of the times, overeats to deal with the frustration. Obese people are, therefore, caught, in a vicious cycle of eating and it then becomes extremely difficult to get them off it.
Because of the unhealthy eating habits and lifestyle, obesity cases have been on a rise, especially in children as the coming generation of kids is easily exposed to marketing fads and strategies that cause them to consume the wrong foods at a very young age. In the developmental years, a child needs to be given optimum care and nutrition. Feeding a child, nutrition-deficient food will not fill the body with the right amount of life energy. As a result, the child’s mental and intellectual capabilities will be compromised, leading to rash decisions and a plethora of unhealthy eating habits.
Ayurvedic obesity treatment in India can help an individual to bring his weight loss issues under control. Ayurveda is based on three classical texts that were written during ancient times. These three texts, namely, the Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya and Sushruta Samhita, hold all the knowledge of Ayurveda. This knowledge of Ayurveda is based on the five elements that make up our bodies – air, water, earth, fire and ether. Complete balance is achieved when these elements are in the appropriate proportions in the body. The doshas are basically nothing but a combination of all the five elements.
In the end, it is to be noted that obesity isn’t something to be taken lightly. Obesity puts a strain on the Musco-skeletal system. It can lead to excess pressure on the joints and ligaments. Too much fat also affects the hormones and other metabolic systems in the body. In terms of mental perspective, the need to become thin and attractive also leads to frustration for the individual. There is hardly any benefit of being obese and all cases point towards the disadvantages. The only solution to it, is to lose weight naturally in a healthy and holistic way, for a lighter and happier future.
