 Primary or essential hypertension - It has no clear underlying cause, but appears to be the result of an interaction of complex genetic and environmental factors.
 Secondary hypertension - It's caused by a specific underlying mechanism, usually involving kidneys or endocrine system

The factors that play a role in causing High Blood Pressure include:
 Lack of physical activity
 Too much salt in the diet
 Diet with processed food
 Being overweight or obese
 Lifestyle habits like Smoking & Alcohol Consumption

 Chronic kidney disease

AYURVEDA'S PERSPECTIVE
According to Ayurveda, understanding the nature of the disease should be initiated through the Doshas & etiological factors. The Doshas(Vata, Pitta & Kapha) are the biological
energies that govern the physical & mental processes of the human body. Toxic/Unbalanced Diet and a Lifestyle that's directly affecting the body are the root causes of Hypertension today. Due to this, too much Vata Dosha is being aggravated in the system. This leads to the production of ama (mucus or toxins), preventing the blood circulation in arteries/blood vessels. Pitta & Kapha complement this effect of Vata and support the progress of the disease with blood being the main mediator. This suggests Hypertension as the involvement of Tridosha. Due to the mucus being produced in the veins, the blood has to exert more pressure to maintain the circulation. This way Hypertension is developed as a severe condition.
