Backache is one of the most common ailments that are prevalent today. Sedentary living habits, hazardous work patterns and psychological conditions associated with emotional stress, which bring about spasm of the muscles, causing backaches. The weight of the entire body is bored by your back, overweight individuals have increased back tension as they have to carry an extra load. In most cases of back pain, pain is usually felt either in the middle of the back or lower down to the tail bone. It may spread to both sides of the waist and hips. In the case of acute pain, the patient is unable to move and is bedridden.

Other causes include stress and weight, high heels, stress and emotional problems and also pain resulting from improper lifting and sitting which may cause painful muscle spasms.
About ninety per cent of back pain patients suffer from what is called the lumbar spondylosis. It is a degenerative disorder in which the different vertebrae adhere to each other through bony unions. As a result of this, the spine loses its flexibility.
Ankylosing spondylitis is arthritis, which is chronic, inflammatory arthritis of the spine and sacroiliac joint is one of the reasons. “Ankylosis” means the fusion of the vertebrae to each other. Chronic inflammation of the joints of the spine together fuses the vertebrae caused by irritation. Ankylosis is a serious situation that damages the spinal cord, spinal mobility and function and also can cause a decreased range of movement, which severely affects a person’s quality of life.
Ayurveda basic three touches of humour (doshas) ie Vata, Pitta and Kapha understands the function of the body. For a body to function at its optimum state must act to balance the three doshas.
