Celiac Disease Ayurvedic Treatment
What is Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease which is also known as coeliac disease is an autoimmune disorder.
It is a severe autoimmune disorder that emerges in genetically prone people where the consumption of gluten leads to harm in the small intestine.
It is assessed to impact 1 in 100 people all over the world. Natural Ayurvedic Treatment of Celiac disease can provide you effective relief from its symtoms.
Celiac Disease Development
In celiac disease, an immune response causes damage to the small intestine's inner lining and prevents it from taking in nutrients.
Malabsorption is the term for this condition. Children with celiac disease experience delays in growth and development.
The immune system overreacts to gluten when people with celiac disease consume gluten-rich foods. (Wheat, rye, oats, and barley all contain a protein called gluten.
Gluten is what gives dough its elastic properties). The body’s immune system begins to treat gluten as “hazardous” and tries to eradicate it.
This causes inflammation in the small intestine, along with intense abdominal discomfort and pain, digestive pain, diarrhea, among other symptoms.
The small intestine villi are harmed as a result of the reaction. Villi do the absorption of nutrients like vitamins and minerals.
The body can't get enough nutrients if these villi are damaged.
From an Ayurvedic perspective, this condition indicates an imbalance of certain body doshas causing weakened immunity and digestion.
Improper diet and lifestyle vitiates Pitta and Vata in the intestine and compromises the immunity. The digestive system is too sensitive that causes an allergic reaction to certain foods which has gluten.
It leads to malabsorption of food and may cause loose motion, weight loss etc. This is known as Celiac disease in Ayurveda.

Non-classical Celiac Disease
Some patients may experience mild gastrointestinal symptoms without any obvious signs of malabsorption.
Other symptoms may appear unrelated. Patients may experience abdominal distension, pain, or other symptoms, such as iron deficiency, chronic fatigue, chronic headaches, or peripheral neuropathy.
Silent Celiac Disease
Asymptomatic celiac is another name for it. Although patients don't complain of symptoms, they still suffer villous atrophy in their small intestines.
Patients who ate a gluten-free diet reported better health, less acid reflux, distension, flatulence, and abdominal bloating, even though they thought they didn't have any symptoms.
Ayurvedic treatment for Celiac Disease
According to Ayurveda, celiac disease is primarily caused by a lack of digestive fire.
Herbal remedies with Agni Deepana (stimulating better digestion and metabolism) and Aam Pachana (to purify toxins from the body) properties to treat celiac disease naturally.
Aam pachana medicines remove toxins from the body, while agni deepana medicines regulate digestive fire. As a result, Ayurvedic treatments for celiac disease aim to restore normal digestion by balancing agni and aam pachana.
However, when the digestive fire stops working, more toxins in the body starts to build up in different body parts if they are not removed properly. As a result, the patient would experience additional symptoms like joint pain, fatigue, etc.
Ayurvedic vaidya or doctor believe that there's no separation between themselves and nature. As such, they follow a holistic regimen to engender overall good health. But following its tenets can be done to treat a specific condition, coeliac disease included.
So, how can you improve this condition with an ayurvedic treatment? Here are the potential pathways for doing so.
Deepana Pachana
At the heart of any ayurvedic treatment you receive will be Agni Deepana and Ama Pachana. The former regulates digestive fire, while the latter purges toxins from the body.
You're probably curious as to what digestive fire is. When it's functioning properly, you digest food as nature designed.
However, eating foods incompatible with your body can stall the fire.
When your digestive fire stops burning, you'll have more toxins in your body. And, if they aren't being purged properly from the body, they can migrate to other areas. So it won't just be your stomach bothering you - it could be joints, muscles, and other organs.
But ayurvedic treatment can help balance your Agni Deepana and Ama Pachana so that digestion returns to normal. For example, something as simple as eating a slice of grated ginger pre-meal can help digestion and toxin removal.
Ultimately, it's all about the digestive fire - and having it burn safely.
Ayurvedic experts can help you customize your diet to keep the fire stoked but not too hot. And removing toxins is what this alternative therapy is all about.
Detox or Panchkarma Therapy
You may have heard of Panchkarma - it's the most famous of all ayurvedic treatments.
And while it may seem painful and unpleasant when described, it is an ayurvedic treatment that often assuages the symptoms of coeliac disease and soothing treatment.
Digestive impurities such as mucus and metabolic toxins pile up in the veins, intestine, liver and joints. They circulate throughout the entire body and block the system. Continuous build-up of these impurities can cause physical and mental disorders and disease. A Detox helps to clean out toxins.
If you break down Panchkarma into its two root words - "Pancha," which means five, and "karma," or procedure — you start to get an idea of this treatment. There are five ways to elicit Panchakarma, which is meant to purify the body.
All Panchkarma procedures are meant to purge and purify. The methods are:
- Vaman, also called emesis therapy, which is vomiting monitored by an ayurvedic therapist
- Virechan, which removes toxins from the intestines with a laxative
- Asthapana or Niruham, an herbal enema
- Anuvaasan, an oil-based enema
- Nasyam, which sends oils through the nostrils to purge you of toxins, sinus pressure, etc.
Different Panchakarma will be deployed for different ailments, of course. But purgation and purification can help you deal with your coeliac disease naturally.
Diet and Lifestyle Modifications
Modern medicine considers celiac disease a final diagnosis. There are no medications that can treat it. It is necessary to eat a gluten-free diet.
You will need to avoid bread, cakes, and other baked goods. Avoid beer, pasta, cereals, and some medications, as well as other gluten-containing products.
In ayurvedic medicine, ayushakti’s doctor interpret coeliac or celiac disease - or any other digestive issue - as a lack of digestive fire. Without ample fire, your stomach won't be able to break down what you eat and use it for energy. In severe cases, this can lead to allergies and intolerances.
Skipping gluten will make your digestion smoother, but it doesn't address the root of the problem. Instead, ayushakti ayurved’s expert will help you modify your diet and lifestyle to soothe your stomach and burn the fire again.
In most cases, it will start with a cleanse. You'll eat fruits and vegetables for a few days, skipping meat, dairy, and gluten-inclusive products.
You might drink cleansing beverages, such as warm ginger water. In addition, some ayurvedic herbs - such as ginger or turmeric - can re-stoke the fire. We have discussed more ayurvedic herbs in this blog.
