What Menopause means?

When there is no menstruation for a year, then it is known as Menopause.   Between 45 to 55 years of age, it happens as ovaries don't produce estrogen and progesterone anymore. Before even menstrual stops, the woman starts going through major changes.  She almost becomes an entirely different person.

Many husbands suddenly feel that my wife has changed; she is no longer the same. Suddenly a very calm, slim-looking, and flexible woman becomes anxious and agitated.  She becomes nervous and irritated now and then.  The agitation and anger will be on her nose tip always.

Physically, She feels bloated with a heavy and stiff feeling in the body.   She gets frequent mood swings even no desire to have sex.

How does Menopause start?
Menopause is a natural process that occurs as the ovaries age and produces fewer reproductive hormones.  The body begins to undergo several changes in response to lower levels of hormones such as estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), Luteinizing hormone (LH).

As per Ayushakti Ayurveda, progressive age and improper diet and lifestyle vitiate Tridoshas, mainly Vata (Apan -Vayu), due to which low circulation and low metabolic fire are seen. These changes in the Artava vaha channels give rise to hormonal imbalance mainly in Androgen, FSH, LH & Insulin levels. It hampers Artava vaha channel functioning and leads to irregular or stopped menses.

What are the types of Menopause?

There are three stages associated with Menopause.

  • Peri-menopause:
Menstrual periods become irregular during this phase. Periods may be late, or you may completely skip one or more periods. Menstrual flow may also become heavier or lighter.
  • Menopause:
It is defined as a lack of menstruation for one full year.
  • Post Menopause:
It refers to the years after menopause has occurred.

There are two types of Menopause is seen:

  • Premature Menopause:  Happens before the age of 40.  In this type, symptoms are similar to natural Menopause, like hot flashes,m vaginal dryness, decreased sex drive, stress, and mood swings.
  • Surgical Menopause: After the ovaries are removed surgically, this type of Menopause happens in some cases.  It is due to the sudden change in the estrogen level.

How to Diagnose Menopause?

  • Physical Exam & History taking-

Signs and symptoms of Menopause are usually enough to tell most women that they've started the menopausal transition. If you have concerns about irregular periods or hot flashes, talk with your doctor. In some cases, further evaluation may be recommended.

  • Hormonal test-
Follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and Estrogen (Estradiol), because your FSH levels increase and estradiol levels decrease as Menopause occurs.
  • Thyroid test-
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), because an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) can cause symptoms similar to those of Menopause.

Ayushakti’s expert doctors diagnose Menopause with Pulse reading (personal consultation) or face reading (video consultation) to evaluate your symptoms and suggest a treatment plan for you to reduce and manage the symptoms effectively within 3-6 months itself.
