Natural Ayurvedic Treatment For Crohns Disease
Crohn's disease is an autoimmune disease that causes digestive tract inflammation.
This condition can affect different parts of the digestive tract in different people and can spread to the bowel's deeper tissue layers. Abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, fatigue, and malnutrition are all symptoms of this condition.
Excessive stress, the invasion of microorganisms, poor abdominal responses, immune system dysfunction, and heredity are all potential causes of Crohn's disease.
What is Crohn’s Disease? Ayurvedic Perspective:
According to Ayurveda, Crohn's disease is caused by inflammation-causing vitiated Pitta dosha.
The symptoms of a vitiated Pitta are the same as those of an inflamed digestive tract.
The naval region, stomach, and rasa tissue are the Pitta dosha's seats.
Rasa is the first tissue produced by the Pitta dosha's nutrition process.
Crohn's disease-like symptoms are observed when Pitta dosha vitiation causes indigestion.
Therefore, the inability of food to be properly digested in the stomach, the formation of toxins, the decreased production of nutritious juices, and the lack of nutritious juices that reach every body tissue are the underlying causes of Crohn's disease.
As a result, balancing the Pitta dosha is the focus of the Ayurvedic treatment for Crohn's disease.
Pravarthana, Pramathyas, and Langhana are the therapies used to treat this condition.
In addition, panchakarma practices, most notably virechana, are used to get rid of toxins that have built up. Rasayana therapy is also used to boost cell nourishment and rejuvenation. This approach to treatment aids not only in the short term but also in the complete reversal of the condition.
General Signs and Symptoms of Crohn’s Disease
- Frequent loose motions
- Bleeding with stool
- Abdominal cramps
- Low digestion
- Stomach pain
- Loose motion
- Weight loss
- Fever
- Fatigue
- Heredity
People who have relatives with Crohn's disease are more likely to develop the condition, so genes may play a role in making people more susceptible. On the other hand, most people with Crohn's disease don't have the disease in their families.
Types of Crohn's Disease
Ileocolitis
This type of Crohn's disease is the most common. It affects the small intestine, the colon, and the ileum and causes significant weight loss and cramping.
Ileitis
This Crohn's disease only affects the ileum. This condition can cause significant weight loss and diarrhea. It may also manifest as pain in the abdomen's middle or lower left part: fistulas, and possibly inflammatory abscesses in the lower right portion of the stomach.
Gastroduodenal Crohn's Disease
This condition affects the stomach, duodenum, and first small intestine. Nausea and weight loss are common symptoms.
Jejunoileitis
This disease is caused by inflammation in your jejunum (the middle of your small intestine). The symptoms include cramps after eating, Fistulas, and intense abdominal pain.
Crohn's (Granulomatous) Colitis
This type of Crohn's disease only affects the colon. It causes skin lesions, joint pains, and diarrhea.
Consequences of Crohn's disease:
Impossibility of bowel movement The thickness of the entire gut wall can change in Crohn's disease. Over time, some parts of the gut may become scarred and constricted, preventing digestive materials from moving around. You may need surgery to remove the unhealthy part of your colon.
Ulcers:
Ulcers, or open sores, can develop throughout your digestive system, including in your mouth, anus, and genital area (perineum).
Fistulas:
A fistula is an unnatural connection between two body parts because ulcers can sometimes spread through the intestinal wall. Fistulas can form between the intestine and other organs and between the skin and the gut. A perianal fistula, also known as an anal fistula, is the most prevalent type.
Anal fissure:
Infection can result from a minor tear in the skin or the tissue that lines the anus. It can cause a perianal fistula and is frequently associated with uncomfortable bowel movements.
Malnutrition:
If you have diarrhea, stomach pain, or cramping, it may be difficult for you to eat or for your gut to absorb enough nutrients to keep you fed. Anemia is most prevalent due to a deficiency in iron and vitamin B-12.
Colon cancer:
Colon Cancer is a type of gastrointestinal cancer if you have Crohn's disease, which most likely affects your colon.
Ayurvedic Treatment For Crohn’s Disease
Ayurvedic treatment for Crohn’s Disease focuses on the Deepana of Agni (appetite stimulation). Oushadhas with properties like Pachana (for formulations that can directly digest ama), Grahi (for formulations that digest and retain food—these are useful in diarrhea and lack of appetite), Vrana ropana (for ulcer healing), and Stambhana (for formulations that stop movement or elimination when there is bloody diarrhea with normal appetite) are examples.
Detox Treatments (Panchkarma) for Crohn's Disease
- Mrudu virechan (Mild Purgation) aimed at Vata anulomana (helping Vata move normally)
- Basti (Medicated Enema): If the lower gastrointestinal tract is affected, Basti is the most effective treatment. With the proper medication, Vasthi will treat the bowel ulcer, speed healing, and reduce the colon's inflammation and irritability.
- Common forms of Basti include the meditative oil enema known as Anuvasana basti and the special Basti preparation known as Picha Basti, which contains mocha rasa—that is, the gum of Bombax malabaricum.
- Sneha Sweda poorva asthapana basti (abhyanga and swedana followed by medicated decoction enema) is followed by anuvasana Basti (medicated oil enema) in the early stages of the disease if only Grahani symptoms are present and no ulcers have formed. If the ama has accumulated in amashaya, the physician will perform Vamana.

better. I thought I would never come out of this problem, but Ayushakti transformed my life.”
