What foods to avoid and what foods to consume to relieve PCOS?

Food for PCOS

Food plans play an important role in relieving PCOS symptoms from the root.  As soon as you get to know that you are suffering from PCOS, start this food plans immediately and experience the difference!

Your diet should include 60% VEGETABLES AND 30% PROTEIN. 

Take more of :

whole grains such as oats, brown rice, rye, millets, amaranth, kamut, spelt, polenta and quinoa. This contains lots of B and E vitamins that are essential for cellular reproduction, hormonal balance.  Basically everything other than wheat.

Proteins like beans, peas, peanuts, fish, chicken, mung, mung dal, lentils. These are rich sources of amino acids good for muscles and reproductive eggs. Rich source of iron in these foods help prevent anemia, decreases the risk of ovulatory infertility functions of red blood cells.

Yams contain an ovulation stimulating substance and are rich in vitamins. Berries like raspberries, blueberries are loaded with antioxidants that protect the body from cell-damaging

Spinach and other leafy greens are excellent sources of folic acid which is a huge fertility booster. It also helps healthy ovum production.

Sweet fruits are good to take. They should be avoided while having a cough, cold, flu, or mucus accumulation in the respiratory tract.

Dairy products ghee (clarified butter) is the best –Normal butter is also good and definitely avoid processed spreads like margarines

Milk should only be taken warm and, preferably, spiced with ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, or turmeric. Good alternatives to cow‘s milk are soya milk, rice milk, almond milk, oats milk, coconut milk

Fresh cheeses such as quark, mozzarella, feta, and ricotta are easier to digest than hard, old ones and are also less mucus producing.

Drinks  Black tea, Ginger Tea

Most essential is the use of various spices i.e. Cumin, coriander, fennel, ajwain, black pepper, and saffron.  Helps improve digestion and reduces bloating.


Bread, pizza, pasta, wheat chappati, and white rice. 

Avoid sugary foods as much as possible like cakes, desserts, soda, fatty foods like pork, beef, fried foods, spicy foods, refined foods like polished rice and refined flour, alcohol, caffeinated beverages.  Intake of sodium and animal proteins should be limited.

 Wheat, meat (especially red meat), and refined sugar

Sour foods such as tomatoes, all sour fruits, kinds of vinegar, and hot spices like chilies.

Fermented or fermentation increasing foods such as yogurt, alcohol, cheese (esp. old and hard ones), and yeast containing foods such as marmite, veggie pâtes, soya sauce, and beer.

Raw vegetables, sprouted beans, and salads

Ice-cold foods and drinks

Processed, Tinned, and Microwaved foods



Sour foods such as tomatoes, all sour fruits (oranges, pineapples, lemons, grapefruits, etc.), kinds of vinegar 

Heavy to digest foods such as wheat, meat (especially red meat)

Fermented or fermentation increasing foods such as yogurt, alcohol, cheese (especially old and hard ones)   

Lifestyle to avoid stress, depression, or irritation:-


  • Fasting once a week with warm ginger water.
  • Do light exercise, under guidance only
  • Do yoga and meditation.


  • Sleep during the day
  • Sedentary lifestyle
  • To sustain natural urges like urination, coughing, sneezing, etc.


If you follow these disciplined diets for six-twelve months, you will have remarkable relief from PCOD complications.  Your periods become regular.
