Following is a diet plan that worked wonders for one of our esteemed clients and would also work for most of the individuals affected by excess weight and low metabolism/energy.
Meher Castelino, a pioneer in fashion journalism, and author of two books on the same tried out this diet. The diet was basically an intense Ayurvedic detox program that helped Ms Castelino get rid of excess fat, lose 5 kgs in three weeks, improve her metabolism, and find renewed vigour and energy.
Don’t confuse this detox program with the typical western detox methods that simply involve drinking juices. The diet described in the article is based on the 5000-years old principles of Ayurveda.

Five days, every month, follow a detox soup (mung and vegetable) diet. Whenever you are hungry, just have this soup. This soup helps remove the toxins and bloating from various crooks and crannies of your body.
Detox soup is very easy to make and is quite palatable
Ingredients :
1 cup soaked green Mung & 2 cups of vegetables. (you can use vegetables like pumpkin, bottle gourd, carrot, onion, French beans, snake gourd, turai, galka,( soft gourd), tendli etc. Cook the mung along with the vegetables in a pressure cooker. Add garlic ginger paste and seasoning to taste. Garnish with coriander leaves and drink warm.
Mung relieves inflammation and bloating while flushing out toxins from the body. It is low in calories and leaves you feeling lighter and more energetic.
On the sixth day, you can return to a normal diet but restrict foods like wheat, fermented, sour, deep-fried foods, red meat like pork and beef and food that tends to create gas in the body. Citrus foods like lemon and tomato should be avoided. Try and avoid carbohydrates including rice, bread, pasta, chapatti, potato, fruits for a few days.
Your diet should now consist of more green and leafy vegetables like pumpkin, bottle gourd, carrot, French beans, turai, galka(soft gourd), tendli, spring onion and tofu. Mung and mung dal, tuvar daal (lentil) are very good. Avoid carbs as much as possible. Nonvegetarians can have eggs, fish, and chicken for their protein requirement.
You can also make mung dal or besan(chickpea flour) pancakes or chilla in place of roti/chapatti.
Spice up your foods with ginger, garlic, cumin, asafoetida, coriander which reduces gas formation in the body.
The weight loss of three to five kgs leaves you feeling lighter and more energetic. If you wish to maintain this feeling of lightness and energy, avoid wheat, sour, fermented foods and red meat from your diet.
The opposite of light, energetic, and healthy feeling is exactly what Ms Castelino was feeling. Work, travelling, and outside food had resulted in high sugar levels which weren’t advisable for her body.
With the help of this diet formed by Ayushakti doctors, a healthy state of being was once again a part of Ms.Castelino’s life.
