Insomnia: Causes, Risks & Treatments
What does insomnia feel like?
Good laugh & sound sleep are the best cure in a doctor’s diary & this is precisely what Ayushakti believes. Insomnia or sleeping disorder is a persistent problem falling asleep. Many people have the habit of going to bed late and waking up late. It means you often find problems with incomplete or poor-quality sleep. With insomnia, you usually awake to feel fatigued, clumsy, or low energy, which takes a toll on your ability to function during the day.
The best healthiest sleep is 8 hours in a dark, silent room, ideally from around 10 pm to 7 am. If the rest is not proper, you feel tired and clumsy, feeling fatigued during the day, reduced performance, headache, high blood pressure, weight gain, anxiety, constant worrying, etc.
Why does insomnia occur?
Sleeping problems that last a couple of nights may be due to environmental stress or to excitement. Environmental stress can produce stress hormones, such as adrenaline and cortisol, that can interfere with serotonin synthesis. The primary cause of insomnia is the body’s failure to produce sufficient amounts of the neurotransmitter melatonin.
According to Ayurveda, resonant sound and healthy sleep come when phlegm (Kapha) increases in the head region. Insomnia is the cause of increased air (Vata) and Raja’s quality of mind.
Due to inappropriate diet & stressful lifestyle, Toxic mucous (Aam) produces in the body post digestion. The vitiated heat(Pitta) and air (Vata) doshas settle in the mental channels (Manovaha Srotas) and dry up the phlegm (Tarpaka Kapha), which is essential for quality sleep. The dryness weakens the brain tissues due to poor nourishment. With the vitiated pitta, this phenomenon makes the nervous system sensitive and hyperactive with Rajas quality. Thus the mind becomes unstable and causes sleep disorders or insomnia.

- A technique to prevent worry at night – 1 hour before bedtime review and write down your problems in a diary, think it over for 10 minutes, asking questions about what I can do to resolve it.
